This year, we will be offering two different ice cream pies that you can purchase for your Thanksgiving dessert table. The first is a Pumpkin Gingersnap Pie in with spiced pumpkin ice cream in a homemade gingersnap crust. The second is a Salted Caramel and Pecan Pie. We nestle our ever popular salted caramel ice cream in a delicious pecan crust that is sure to be a hit. Both pies are $19.99 and available all month.
Victory Garden needs a new name for our Vanilla ice cream, and we are asking our customers to help us find it!
Did you know that vanilla is the second most expensive spice after saffron? That is because it only comes from one type of orchid, which has to be hand pollinated under ideal conditions in order to produce this exotic spice. What is so plain about that? Absolutely nothing, we say!
We are using Mexican vanilla beans from the region of Veracruz, Mexico, where vanilla originated. A flavor as delicate, exotic, and classic as Vanilla deserves a special title. Especially one as delicious as ours. We take a lot of pride in the origins of this renowned spice and we want to celebrate it with a special name provided by our wonderful community of goat milk ice cream lovers! So please help us #nameourvanilla.
Here is how it works:
Step 1: Think of the best vanilla name in existence. It should scream “Vanilla is not plain”, “Viva Mexico” (optional), “Vanilla is the best flavor ever”, “You gotta try this vanilla”!
Step 2: E-mail it to us at , submit it in the store with your name and contact info, or post it on our Instagram feed @victorygardennyc, on our Facebook page /victorygardennyc, or on twitter @victorygardenny. If you go social, be sure to include #nameourvanilla
Step 3: Wait till June 30th
Step 4: Win a whole lot of goat love. If we like your name best we’ll put you, our Vanilla Victor, in our Goat Notes newsletter and send you a free shipment of our ice creams (including a pint of the newly named Vanilla). We will even include the newest edition of our Victory Garden T-shirt!
When I was younger and running my cooking website, I used to work part time at the Mastiha Shop on Orchard Street for some extra cash. My dear friend, Artemis Kohas, ran the store for 7 years. I loved that job. I loved listening to Greek pop music that I didn’t know the words to, but which I eventually memorized. I loved chewing on mastic, and the slight camphoric scent that filled the room. She used to sell Greek coffee granules that were scented with the healing resin, which led me to start making my own mastic coffee at home. Way before any seedling thought of Victory Garden had been planted, I would infuse goat milk in a sauce pan with a few drops of the oil and a spoonful of sugar. I would then pour it over freshly brewed espresso made in my Moka for me and anyone who was staying with me. It wasn’t before long that my mother would wake up and request mastic coffees in the morning. “Make me a mastic coffee” she would say excitedly as she ambled into the kitchen. I was so happy to share the mastic love. My mother passed away a month after I opened the shop, but her presence is here with every mastic coffee that I prepare.
Every Monday is now Mastic Monday, mainly because it rhymes with Manic Monday, and well, it is always just another Manic Mastic Monday. Mastic Coffees are $3.00 and other mastic-y things will present themselves too.
We are really excited to present you with our new labels. We love our hard packed ice creams, and we hope you do too. Even though we would love to have custom labeled pints in bright and beautiful designs, this is a step by step process. We have to see what people think of our products and try an improve them as much as possible before going ahead with larger projects like that. For now, we have these really awesome labels that allow us to experiment a little bit in the meantime. We are offering our Vanilla Blackflower, Date Oasis, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Victory, and Honey Lavender every day, and will be featuring seasonal flavors as we find really special things that we want to freeze in a moment of ice cream time. What you can do to help us (besides popping by for a pint or soft serve) is to request at your local grocer that they carry our product. And please let us know where you are located and where you like to shop!

We are working towards our goal of launching hard packed ice cream pints to sell retail and we need your help! On January 12th we invite you to stop by the shop between the hours of 5-8:30 pm to sample all 6 of our ice cream flavors and fill out a (very brief) survey for us. We are located at 31 Carmine Street between Bleecker and Bedford!
Join us for an olive oil tasting from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30th with Mary Panagoulas from Blue Olive Oil. We will be sampling her olive oil on yogurt, bread, and in a prepared salad. Blue Olive Oil is made with Koroneiki olives from the island of Crete, which are a protected product of origin in Europe. They have the highest concentration of polyphenols than any other olive, and are highly praised for their health benefits. Blue Olive Oil has a very low acidity (a good thing), and is made with the olives from a family that Mary knows. We also love the fact that Blue has already donated a well to people in need of clean drinking water in Pakistan. Come by and learn more about this great new company.

We are really excited about Tuesday Nights at Victory Garden! In January (and the first week in February), we featured Gayle Stacher, for Tarot Nights. In February, we are going to be hosting Beyonce Nights! Every Tuesday, between 6 – 9pm, if you dance along to the Beyonce (and Destiny’s Child) we will be playing, you will earn a free topping on your soft serve. The dances have to be legitimate (10 seconds or more), and we really want to see you move. If you would like to enter our competition, we can film you doing your dance for us, which we will post on our Twitter/Instagram/Vine feeds. We will also be accepting videos posted on our feeds that were filmed outside of the shop, but for the purpose of the competition. At the end, the video with the most votes will win a MAJOR gift bag from us with all of our most popular products. We are so excited to do this!! We love Beyonce, and hope that everyone has fun with this when they come in. So, in summary, if you come in on a Tuesday night in February between 6-9pm and dance your little heart out for 10 seconds or more, you get a free topping on your soft serve. Though first and foremost we are an ice cream shop, every December we bring out our two cakes for the season. The first is Thelma’s Bourbon Cake, named after my grandmother. She baked this cake every year for us during the holidays, making Bourbon Cake synonymous with Christmas in the Brittan household. We sell the large Bourbon Cakes for $25 at the shop, and they come dusted with confectioners sugar in a lovely brown cake box. The second cake is a Triple Ginger Cake, which is made with fresh, candied, and powdered ginger. I have never been a huge cake person (besides Birthday Cake, of course), but the first time I tried this cake I finished gobbling it up with abandon. There is something sneakily addictive of the mixture of maple, molasses, and ginger in this delicious cake. Since the holidays are usually associated with various spiced cakes, this one is perfect for the holiday season. I suggest serving it for brunch, as a hostess gift, or enjoying after dinner with a dollop of ice cream. The Triple Ginger Cakes are $11.65 each. We serve both cakes in the individual form at the shop, so you can always stop by and try them for yourself before ordering a whole one.
