I knew immediately that they had to be part of the Victory Garden product line, even if it meant that I would be branching into beauty products.
Fast forward to this week, when I went to get my order. I had never been up to Voluntown, even though it is only about a 30 minute drive from Watch Hill, where I spend the Summer. I was in awe of all of the beauty as I drove up to their farm. I passed so many gorgeous barns, farm houses, and pastures along the road. Studio Farm had always seemed like an odd name for a farm to me. Dick and Dot Wingate explained to me that the Farm was used as a film studio in the early 20th Century, when a man named Joe Totten of the Essanay Film Company of Chicago convinced his bosses to use the farm for shooting some of their silent pictures. One little detail that I loved was that the old barn (pictured) has bars on the windows, which they used for the jail scenes. Once, when Dick and Dot had a small fire in their house and called the fire department, know one knew where their house was. The fire man finally recognized it as The Old Studio Farm, and it has been known as such ever since.
